The meaning that adults have in biology is a term used to describe an animal that is with the capacity to reproduce. For humans adults have implications that are based on social and legal concepts. In contrast to a non-adult or "minor", a legal adult is a person who has attained the age of majority and is therefore regarded as an independent, self-sufficient person and dependable. Legal adults can also be referred to as a major. 18.18 is the norm for minimum age to become an adult, although this may differ depending on country and the status of the law and also psychological maturity.

The stage of development for humans in which full physical and mental maturation has been reached. Typically, the age of adulthood is around the age of 21 or 20. The age of old is 60 years later than middle the age of 60. The three main stages of adulthood include early adulthood (from mid-30s through late-60s) mid-adulthood between mid-30s until late-60s and then later adulthood (mid-60s up to end of life). When we enter the age of early adulthood (20 to the early 40s) our physical growth has been completed, however the size and weight of our bodies could increase a bit. During young adulthood we reach the peak of our physical capabilities.
